Garden lovers are in for a treat this spring, with Dove Hospice & Wellness announcing its very first Garden Ramble on Saturday 15 November 2025.

The one-day event will open the gates to a carefully curated selection of private gardens across Auckland’s Eastern Bays, offering a rare chance to discover some of the city’s most creative and inspiring outdoor spaces. From bold design features to imaginative planting, each garden has been selected to spark fresh ideas for both seasoned gardeners and casual enthusiasts alike.

Running from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, the Garden Ramble is more than just a celebration of nature and creativity. All proceeds will go directly to Dove Hospice & Wellness, supporting its mission to provide compassionate care for people and families facing life-limiting illnesses.

“This is a chance to enjoy some of Auckland’s most remarkable private gardens while knowing your ticket purchase is helping families in our community,” says Dove Hospice & Wellness CEO Simon Jones. “It’s a day to be inspired, connect with others, and support the work we do every day.”

The event has been made possible thanks to the support of event partner Humphreys Landscaping, along with Principal Sponsor St Andrew’s Village, Major Sponsor King’s Plant Barn, and supporting partner Milford Asset Management.

The Garden Ramble is set to become a highlight of Auckland’s spring calendar, a day of inspiration, community, and giving back.

Dove Hospice & Wellness has received a major boost to its operations thanks to the generosity of John Andrew Ford, who have donated a brand-new electric van to support the charity’s work in the community.

The van will be used daily to transport goods to Dove’s retail stores and collect donations from supporters, helping to keep the shops well-stocked and running smoothly. As Dove Hospice & Wellness continues to grow, the addition of a reliable vehicle is expected to make a significant difference in day-to-day operations.

In keeping with Dove’s commitment to sustainability, the new van is fully electric. This not only streamlines logistics but also reduces the environmental footprint of the organisation’s activities.

“We are incredibly grateful to John Andrew Ford for this generous donation,” said Simon Jones, CEO of Dove Hospice & Wellness. “Their support strengthens our ability to serve the community while staying true to our mission of sustainability and care. This vehicle will help us work more efficiently and represents a meaningful step forward in reducing our environmental impact.”

Dove Hospice & Wellness provides specialist palliative and supportive care for people with life-limiting illnesses, while also running a network of retail shops that raise vital funds for its services. These shops play a vital role in the community by offering affordable, high-quality goods, encouraging reuse and recycling, and funding the care Dove provides at cost-cost to its clients. The new van will make it easier to collect donations from households and businesses across the region, ensuring community contributions continue to directly support people in need.

“From all of us at Dove Hospice & Wellness, thank you to the team at John Andrew Ford for your generosity, your belief in our mission, and your commitment to supporting both our work and our community.”

Nic's monthly visit at Dove House

In the midst of life’s challenges, finding a place of genuine care and support can make all the difference. For Nic, a former Navy serviceman and current client at Dove Hospice & Wellness, the impact of our services has been profound.

Nic’s journey with Dove began when he was referred due to a blood disorder related to leukaemia. Although not leukaemia itself, his condition necessitated the specialised support our services provide. “Dove has been immensely supportive,” Nic expressed. “From the top to the bottom, everyone there is so supportive, so kind, so friendly and loving. They’re more than just ‘Hi, Nic’. You know, they care.”

The care Nic receives at Dove has become an important part of his routine. On the first Wednesday of each month, he attends a Reiki session with Linda, one of our skilled holistic therapists. These sessions support Nic’s comfort, resilience, and overall wellbeing. Nic is also an active participant in our Men’s Group facilitated by Lee Young.

Nic emphasises that hospice care isn’t just for those nearing life’s end: “If anyone is thinking about going to Dove, or going to a hospice, you don’t have to be on death’s door to go. Just go get support. And they can help you through… You know, I’m fortunate I can get some respite care that I can also ask for which is extra, but if anyone is thinking about going—go, you won’t regret it.”

Nic's encounter with Queen Elizabeth during his service in the Navy.

Despite his health struggles, Nic radiates positivity and resilience. His story is a powerful reminder of the importance of living life to the fullest, regardless of circumstances. Drawing from his rich life experiences, including serving on the Royal Yacht Britannia and meeting Queen Elizabeth II, Nic offers his biggest life advice: “Enjoy. Enjoy every minute, you know, do things that you want to do. Don’t put them off, get them done. I was fortunate. I’m ex-military, and the Navy took me to sea for the day on one of the ships when we had the TV camera come out and did a bit of filming too. So whatever bucket list you got, get onto it.”

At Dove Hospice & Wellness, we’re committed to helping our patients embrace life with dignity and joy. Nic’s journey exemplifies the impact hospice care can have, not just in managing illness, but in enriching lives. The Dove Model of Care is about more than just end-of-life support. Our care is about enhancing the quality of life for our patients, providing holistic care, and supporting them in achieving their goals, whatever they may be.

If you or a loved one are facing a life-threatening illness and could use support, we encourage you to reach out to Dove Hospice & Wellness. Like Nic, you may find not just care, but a community ready to support you on your journey.

Last month, we met with Margot Lewis, one of the owners of Junk2Go, a family-run business in Auckland that has been providing rubbish and junk removal services since 2005.

Junk2Go initially started as a small operation but has since grown exponentially, now offering a wide range of efficient and reliable services including DIY and construction site clean-ups, commercial waste management, and office clearance solutions.

Through their commitment to growth and improvement, the company has significantly increased the number of trucks in operation, expanded its service areas, increased junk collection capacity, and enhanced waste elimination processes for faster results. This notable growth has empowered Junk2Go to extend its services to previously unreached suburbs in Auckland, effectively catering to a larger population of residents and businesses.

Sustainability is at the heart of our values at Junk2Go and Dove Hospice & Wellness. Our partnership focuses on the redirection of reusable items to support various community initiatives and work towards diminishing landfill waste. Junk2Go operates a ‘Charity Donation Programme’ where junk collected by their company, still in good condition, is donated to various charities, including our Dove Hospice Shops, with proceeds supporting our hospice services. This collaboration cultivates a positive cycle of reuse, benefiting the environment and providing vital support to local communities.

As Junk2Go expands its operations and introduces new innovations, our partnership with their company represents our mutual commitment to creating a sustainable, eco-friendly future. We are dedicated to integrating sustainable practices into every aspect of our operations, not only to bring about positive change but also to inspire and engage our community in adopting an environmentally conscious lifestyle.

The Story of Littlemore: In the bustling heart of Tāmaki Makaurau, a small charity is making a significant impact, one baby at a time. Littlemore, driven by a simple yet powerful concept, repurposes high-quality baby essentials and distributes them to families in need through expert social service agencies.

Since its inception, Littlemore has been dedicated to ensuring that every baby can enjoy a little more warmth, comfort, and care, regardless of the challenges their families face.

From Humble Beginnings to Community Impact: Littlemore started as a modest operation in the founder’s home in 2013, with a vision to support whānau across the region. Recognising that they could amplify their impact by partnering with organisations that identify families with the greatest needs, Littlemore began working with agencies well-versed in the complex issues these families face. These challenges often include poor housing, homelessness, financial distress, and social isolation.

The charity’s approach is both straightforward and heartwarming: generous families donate baby clothing and items in excellent condition, which are then sorted, processed, and organized by Littlemore. These life-changing items are distributed directly to families, ensuring that pre-loved baby gear gets a second life and brings joy to new parents navigating tough times.

Growing to Meet the Need: As Littlemore’s reputation grew, so did its operational needs. By 2017, the charity had expanded sufficiently to require its first part-time employee, ensuring the smooth management of its growing operations. The support from Storage King Grey Lynn provided much-needed space, allowing Littlemore to process and store the increasing volume of donations.

A Community Effort Littlemore’s success is a testament to the power of community. The charity thrives on the generosity of families who donate items, the dedication of volunteers who sort and distribute them, and the expertise of social service agencies that ensure the items reach those who need them most. Thousands of lives are touched each year by Littlemore’s efforts, providing much-needed relief and support to families during one of the most critical times in their lives.

Looking Ahead: Littlemore continues to grow, expanding its volunteer team and the number of social profit organizations it supports. This growth ensures that their vital service can reach even more families across Auckland. Each donated item represents a community coming together to support its most vulnerable members, embodying the spirit of giving and solidarity. As Littlemore moves forward, it remains committed to making a big difference through small, meaningful acts of kindness. By repurposing baby essentials and distributing them to families in need, Littlemore not only helps babies but also strengthens the community, fostering a network of support and care that benefits everyone involved.

Partnering with Dove Hospice: Dove is proud to be a key partner in Littlemore’s mission, significantly contributing by providing high-quality donations of baby items. Known for our compassionate care and community support, Dove Hospice extends this generosity by donating baby essentials, which are then repurposed for families in need. This partnership exemplifies the collaborative spirit that drives Littlemore’s success, ensuring every item reaches a family who will benefit the most.

Through this collaboration, we strive to make a meaningful impact on the lives of those who need it the most. Our donations include everything from diapers and baby clothing to toys and other essential supplies, all meticulously selected to meet the highest standards of quality and safety. By working closely with Littlemore, we ensure that our contributions are effectively distributed to maximize their positive impact.

Together with Littlemore, we are dedicated to building a brighter future for every child and family we serve. Our shared vision and combined efforts highlight the importance of unity and compassion in creating lasting change. We are honoured to be a part of this incredible journey and look forward to continuing our work together to support and uplift our community.

How Can You Help: For those looking to contribute, whether by donating items, volunteering time, making a financial donation or spreading the word about their vital work, Littlemore offers a chance to be part of a compassionate and impactful mission. Together, we can ensure that every baby in Tāmaki Makaurau has the warmth, comfort, and care they deserve.
