Body Therapies

Body Therapies have been shown to support the body and mind in a vast number of ways. Our therapeutic environment is created to ensure each person’s situation is carefully considered, with the most appropriate therapies being offered to support holistic wellbeing.

The holistic approach to care

Body Therapies have been shown to:

  • Reduce anxiety, depression, insomnia and pain
  • Support the relaxation response
  • Support immune function
  • Improve the circulation

Oncology Massage

This is a gentle massage technique specially developed for people with life threatening illness. Through gentle touch the ‘relaxation response’ is experienced, relieving physical symptoms, calming the mind and body. Research has shown that Oncology Massage improves quality of life for people with cancer diagnosis. (Cassileth and Vickers 2004.)

Oncology Massage can reduce the following side-effects of cancer and its treatment:

  • Pain
  • Insomnia
  • Anxiety
  • Nausea
  • Depression

Reflexology

Reflexology is the application of gentle pressure applied to specific points or reflexes on the soles of the feet, which correspond to organs and systems in the body. This technique promotes homeostasis or balance and harmony within the body.

Reiki

An ancient Japanese technique that helps to balance the subtle physical, mental, emotional and spiritual energies that are within each of us. It is a widely used complementary health approach that enhances the quality of life, supporting stillness, comfort and feelings of peace and wellbeing.

Breath and Stillness

Mindful breath during body therapies helps to still the mind and calm the central nervous system. We encourage you to use guided breathing techniques to facilitate deep relaxation. Stillness will allow you to gain the maximum benefit from your body therapies.

Aromatherapy

After consultation, Essential Oils may be used during your Body Therapy, these are specifically chosen to support your current needs. Essential Oils can support, symptom management, relaxation, emotional and spiritual comfort.

Shiatsu

Shiatsu is based on traditional Japanese massage therapy. Shiatsu works with the body’s energy flow, known as Ki or Qi (pronounced chee). It uses acupressure to release tension and bring balance to the body. It can help to lift your mood and make you feel relaxed.

Medical Acupuncture

By stimulating the body’s various systems, acupuncture can help to resolve pain, and improve sleep, digestive function, and sense of well-being.
